Protean Risk is now part of the Howden group
As our new logo suggests, we are now part of Howden, one of the UK’s leading insurance brokers and one that is proudly independent.
This is an exciting new chapter for us as it means we can now offer our clients more through the increased scale and broader range of services that we now have.
Like Protean Risk, Howden share our passion for delivering the very best outcomes for clients and forming enduring relationships with them.
Going forward, our existing clients will continue to receive a first-class service from the same dedicated and familiar team, but now with more resources behind us to achieve more for clients at renewal and throughout the year. These include:
- Greater market access and leverage
- Support of a large in-house legal, technical and claims structure team to advise you alongside your existing team
- Global capabilities so that we can support you wherever your business takes you

These range from start-ups right the way through to large corporates and encompasses the full spectrum of firms, including; banks, wealth managers, asset managers, financial advisers, fintech, payments services firms, commercial firms, insurance companies and many more.
Our combined team pride ourselves on our deep understanding of the sectors in which we operate so that we can help clients obtain the insurance coverage they need and protect their business effectively.
Being one of the largest specialist financial lines brokers in UK means we can leverage our standing with insurers to secure the best possible terms for clients. We place GBP 1bn into the financial lines market alone.
The Howden story is a unique one, which clients and market partners can relate to. From starting out with just 3 people 27 years ago, to where we are now, employing over 6,500 people across 160 offices in the UK and 10,000 people globally.
Throughout this journey, we have remained true to our culture and guiding principles. We are fiercely proud and protective of our independence. It means we can devote our attention to clients and not short-term shareholder demands or targets.
It is our people who make the difference. We have a unique business based on a long term view. We have a People First culture, built around trust, creativity and empowerment. Employee ownership means all of our colleagues feel personally invested in helping our clients succeed.
